What causes concrete driveways and sidewalks to sink?

Florida is a constant victim of erosion, which causes sinking, especially after one of Florida’s notorious heavy rainstorms. This erosion can carry soil away from under your driveway, creating a void under the concrete. Below, we have listed some common causes of sinking.

Washed Out

As previously mentioned, erosion is a common cause of sunken concrete, as your driveway can begin to sink where the soil has been washed out. Clogged drains and improperly installed downspouts can make erosion worse. All it takes is a heavy load to be kept in your driveway for driveway sections to sink and crack.
